Jean-Michel Basquiat (1960-1988) was a ground-breaking American artist whose work has become renowned for its raw energy and bold, expressive style. Born in Brooklyn, New York, to a Puerto Rican father and Haitian mother, Basquiat started out as a street artist in the late 1970s and rapidly rose to fame.
